025: Some music on a sunday

Never thought I was going to say this, but I went for a morning walk... this morning. Indeed, I'm no morning person at all, so I surprised myself there!

Yesterday I went to Pee Klak with my best friend and he brought the next woman to my attention, Anna Calvi. Recently Anna Calvi released her self-titled debut album, which is really amazing and she was nominated for the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll. Listening to her album, I imagine myself at a festival while she's performing. With sunglasses on my nose and a cold beverage in my hand, enjoying the beats, the vocals and the sun. Mark my words, we haven't heard the last of her yet.

I can recommend Anna Calvi to people who also like the sound of PJ Harvey. If you want to listen to her album, you can do it here. And now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to eat my biscuit cake.

Have a great sunday, people.

024: Party at my place

Awesome, it's a saturday night and I am at home. Home alone in Ghent.
Been working today and ought to be studying actually.
Been on the phone with Winny for more than 3 hours.
Tired now.

This is for me, for him, for her, for everyone.

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out.
It doesn't matter much to me.

Have a good night people,

023: Hello, goodnight.

Today was a busy one, a workday. The day began swell as I showed up one hour too early for work. I was convinced this was going to affect my whole day and so I took peace with the fact, rather quickly, that my day was going to suck. Big time. Fortunately, it didn't! I met some really cool people, like Kim. We had lunch together and she told me about her tattoo artist carreer, which I really enjoyed listening to. And as the day went by, I became richer by the minute. London, here I come!

(Forgive me my attitude, but it's been a while since I went shopping AND since I went abroad.)

In other news, I'm listening to Tom Waits this evenig. If you're not familiar with him, he's an actor, a writer and a singer. He's a mastermind who can be extremely funny and ridiculous but also very serious. His voice as described by critic Daniel Durchholz: "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."

This one is one of my favorite songs of Tom Waits. It is yet serious, but at the same time it isn't. It touches one's heart, but it also puts a smile on one's face, I guess. It kinda depends on how you interpret the lyrics. I've read this song is about a trip he made to Copenhagen, which was a really drunk one. But he met someone.

I lost my Saint Christopher now that I've kissed her

Beautiful! He kissed his love and his wandering days were over. (Actually, that's how I would like to interpret the song.)

Sleeptight,

022: Time for the Devil

La Blogotheque is a great way to discover new bands, for example: John & Jehn. Discovered them a few weeks ago and I must say they sound very very nice. Nicolas Congé and Camille Berthomier started their musical journey in 2006 after moving to London. They recorded a few songs in their bedroom in England and in a barn in France. Sweetness.

I definitely hear old rock-sounds like The Velvet Underground and they claim to be inspired by The Doors, Serge Gainsbourg, Johnny Cash, etc. Hear them out!

Love,

021: What happened this week

I. SCHOOL - I finished my thesis! And I'm glad to say: I did a great job (well, apparently) I worked out a small campaign for my dance school, Urban Talentz. My promoter, Joke, was more than happy with the result and even asked me to volunteer as communication officer! KIDIBULL FOR EVERYONE, YAY! My teachers on the other hand didn't understand anything concerning hip hop and were, in my eyes, not interested at all in my work. They asked questions which I already explained during my presentation, etc. But whatever, Joke is happy and so am I!

II. PINTEREST - Let's have a look at the things I pinned this week to my wishlist.

These are a few pins, I actually pin a lot more in one week. I can't stop thinking about the shoes actually! They look so beautiful and easy to combine. About the yellow dress, well... I love the color, but I don't know for sure if it's my color. I surely hope so though.

III. MUSIC - There are a few new bands I discovered, but more about that tomorrow. Today, I'm kinda hooked on Pink Floyd.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can’t hear what you’re saying.

Lovely...

Have a good night everyone!

020: Eindejaarslijstje n°3

Onder andere... Maar nog zoveel meer in feite! Moesten jullie nog een topalbum kennen, let me know. Ik sta daar voor open!
